Creature Digging in the Sand

Today I was at the beach here in southern california, with my cousins and I found sand crabs. I decided to blog about it. First of all sand crabs never pinch or bite, they crawl around and tickle the hand when you hold them.

The best way to find a sand crab is when the ocean water is going back. You simply dig with your hands in the sand or use a sand shovel, and pick up a pile of sand. Make sure you pick up some water with the sand. The sand crab would be at the bottom of the pile close to your hand. You know that because you feel the tickle of the sand crab trying to dig down into your hand.

Sand Crabs never dig up, they always dig down. So when you hold them in a pile of sand in your hand they dig down even when you hold them upside down. Somehow they know which way is up and which way is down.

Sand crabs come in many different sizes the smallest is the size of a lady bug and the largest the size of a beetle.

I wondered while I was at the beach how can an animal live in sand and still find food. My dad told me that sand crab might be feeding on Planktons. Planktons are microscopic creatures that feed off the sunlight.
I see seagles picking in the sand feeding on sand crabs. That makes the seagles a predator higher up on the food chain.

When I have access to the internet, I will tell you about what sand crabs really eat, and a lot more more. I will also investigate if sand crabs can be made pets.

Caring for the Green Lizard

There are two types of Iguanas, Green Iguana and the Lesser Antillean Iguana. The Green Iguana is the type that is commonly kept as a pet.

Iguanas live in tropical rain forests where they find lots of water. Most of the time they are found in tree canopies, high above ground.

Iguanas eat both plant and animals, so they are called omnivores. Most of the time they eat leaves and fruits, but sometimes they eat eggs and insects. When kept as pets, they should never be fed animal food. They might get sick or die. Pet stores may sell Iguana food, but you should give them fresh fruits and vegetables.

The Life of The Spider Monkey

Spider monkeys live in tropical forests from southern Mexico to Brazil. Today, the monkeys are threatened by habitat destruction, becaue people are cutting down trees to build homes. they are the most intelligent New World Monkeys. They call them spider monkeys because they have long arms and legs.
They are very flexible and they live in groups of 15 to 25 monkeys. The baby monkey clings on the mother's belly in the first four monts of life, later they cling on her back untill they are ready to go alone.
The female spider monkey is much more active than the male. These monkeys do not have a thumb, but they scratch themselves with their hands and feet. The mother grooms her babies.
Spider monkeys eat mostly fruits, they eat the seeds along with it. They also eat leaves, insects,
flowers, and worm larvae.

Guinea Pig tips

Guinea Pigs are rodents, despite their name, they are not pigs. Do not get tricked by the name, because these animals do not come from Guinea. Guinea Pigs originally came from the Andes Mountains in South America.

When you have Guinea Pigs home as pets, you should consider neutering them. Obviously when they are not together this would not be necessary.

You should not put Guinea Pigs with rabbits, because the rabbits are so much bigger and they can kick the Guinea Pig with their hind leg.

To keep your fluffy pet healthy, you should give them lots of vegetable leaves and vitamin C. They looove cucumbers. So remember to keep those items on your shopping list.

Guinea Pigs love to be cuddled every day. They like to have their body picked up gently, they have very delicate bones.

When ready to buy a Guinea Pig, make sure it is a baby because they are easier to tame when young.

Guinea Pigs are friendly animals, and make real good pets. They come in many different colors, pick your favorite and have fun.
